Dear Newsletter readers,

Hello, how are you? This is Fumie writing.
It's already August.
Fireworks displays are held in many parts of Japan at this season of year.
The other day, the fireworks display was held in Tondabayashi, where Ichiroya is located, too.
About 25,000 fireworks were set off and they were beautiful and awesome.

By the way, I went to the swimming pool which is in Nagashima Spa Land with my family for two days.
http://www.nagashima-onsen.co.jp/resort/download.html/

Nagashima Spa Land is a major amusement park in Kuwana, Mie Prefecture, Japan.
The water in the swimming pool is cleansed seawater of Ise Bay.
We can experience the feeling of swimming in the ocean.
The park has various kinds of swimming pools such as lazy river, wave pool and water sliders.

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170803130055j:plain

My second son who is seven y.o is not so good at swimming, and he is afraid of getting into water.
was crying whenever he went into water until two years ago.
However, he had so much fun in the swimming pool, so he forgot himself who is not good at swimming. He was going to swim in the lazy river called "Torrent" without his swim ring.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpgAgq_dHJo

He made me feel very uneasy many times, but I was glad to be able to see his smile.

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170727131632j:plain

My first son who is ten y.o challenged the 328ft (100m) height slider that my husband and I were very scared.
When he slid down from the slider with splash of water, I was very excited.
Although it was very hot day of the midsummer, I was able to feel the coolness.
Thanks to the swimming pools!
The two days were the time while I was able to see the growth of my sons.

Hello again!  This is Nanae writing.  Na Na Yeah~♪How have you been?
I would like to introduce one of my favorite tourist attractions (?) in Osaka today.
I love to take my friends there and enjoy watching their first reaction.  I think ladies get excited, and somehow men get frightened.

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170316172052j:plain

This is the best spot among airplane freaks to watch airplanes about to land from just underneath.  We can see the airplanes’ belly button.

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170729201519p:plain

This spot is near Itami (Osaka) airport. As you walk for a while, you will see a river. Walk along the river and there you are! The best spot for airplane watching!  Though it takes 20 minutes on foot from the nearest car park, it is worthwhile as you can see many airplanes landing while walking.

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170729201752j:plain

BJ TENKINZOKU | Flickr

We watched an airplane every 5 to 10 minutes and a jumbo jet every 20 minutes.  We might be able to watch extra private jet, too.
Although I don’t know if it is legal or not, there was a volunteer who had a tablet, a radio and a big rice ball.  She said
‘Next one will be landing within 10 minutes!  It is flying over Nagoya now. A big one!’
She gave us some information after she used the tablet and listened to the radio. And then she ate a rice ball.

Kimono Flea Market ICHIROYA's News Letter No.704

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170712083822j:plain

Dear Newsletter readers,

Konnichiwa, this is Mari from boiling hot Osaka.
We are still in the middle of rainy season though.
July is the month of health check up at Ichiroya.
Ichiroya is a very generous company which offers annual medical check up to
all the employee. Every July, we go to the largest hospital of our city to get
comprehensive medical examination. It includes blood test, abdominal ultrasound,
stomach X-ray, eye exam, urin and stool test, etc. and doctor's review at the end.
Female employees get brest ultrasound and uterine cancer exam, too.
It is Ichiro and Yuka's policy that we need to be healthy to provide the best
service to our customers. Ichiroya pays for the exams and the day we take them. We
are very thankful for them.
I went to the check up. I had to finish my dinner by 7 pm on the night before the check up.
Then, it was prohibited to take any food and liquid until the end of all the test.
I was hungry and thirsty in the morning of course. I can't remember how many times
I stopped myself to drink my son's OJ, and have a bite of his bagel in the morning.
Thank god! I was able to resist all the temptation and made it to the hospital on
time with empty stomach.

At 9am, right after I checked in the hospital, I was asked to change to the sexy
outfit for check up. OK! I'm ready!

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170712085036j:plain

The serises of exams went smoothly.
Then, the highlight of the exams came up, STOMACH X-RAY!
This is the last exam I had to take, and the most difficult one.
I hate it...

There are a couple of good reasons why I hate it.
1) I have to put up with burping after I take a blowing agent while I'm taking
stomach X-ray. It's hard! They make my stomach filled with air by the blowing
agent to see its inside better. If I burped, my stomach would shrink and they
couldn't take clear image of my stomach. I have to focus on not burping while I'm
on the table. Sigh...

2) I have to drink a bottle of barium(white sloppy liquid) which doesn't taste
good at all. Yack! It's not taste good because if it were taste good, my stomach
start moving. It bother them to take good images of my stomach. It is a very good
reason. However, I still don't like the taste and sloppy texture. Sigh...

3) I have to roll over on the slippy table hundreds times to make the barium
flow well in my body! You would laugh out loud if you see me doing it! I'm like a
rat in a lab! Sigh...

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170712102212j:plain

OK, I know I have to go through this anyways. Bring it on!
I did drink up the blowing agent and barium.
The X-ray engineer ordered what to do, like "Hold the side bars tightly!", "Roll
over to your right! Faster! Faster! Even faster!", "STOP! Right there!" etc. I
know that he was trying to take the best images of my stomach. I really appreciate
his hard work. However, I thought that he is trying to make me laugh by ordering
those difficult moves and posing. He even tilted the table until my head went
lower than my feet. Then, he asked me to stay still for a while by holding bars on
the side of my body. If my grips were a little bit weaker, I could slide down from
the table and landed by my head! Thank god, I was able to hanging there, and
didn't burp! No burp so far!
Then, I tried to roll over as fast as I could. But, he asked me to do even faster!
I was like "No way! I'm doing my best! Also, I'm holding a big burp!"
There were only me and the engineer in the room. I wish you could be there and
watching us doing whole thing. It must be funny!

Anyways, I took all the exams. The result came out very well. I had no health
problem at all. That is good to know.
Finally, my annual medical check up is over! I was handed a meal coupon which I
can use at a cafeteria of the hospital. I choose a mackerel bento box for my
lunch. It was, of course, tasty after 17 hours fasting.

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170712112750j:plain

I hope I will be able to hang on the X-Ray table next year, too.
Thank you for reading. See you next time!

Hello everyone! Ogenki desuka?  Yoko desu.
Rice patties near my house have beautiful green rice stalks growing and they make beautiful sound when the wind blows.
Despite the loud frogs' chorus and attack by the mosquitoes, I must say I enjoy the view and sound of the rice patties outside of my kitchen window and in front of my house.
We get visit by the frogs at night, and my beagle Marin enjoys their company, but I am not sure if frogs enjoy being chased by Marin ........ hahaha
Yes, I am writing this week's newsletter....  Well, to be honest, I am running out of ideas on topics to write.
I get nervous and anxious when my turn comes closer... I tell you why...
You know, I live a pretty simple life..., there is not much to tell or share....
I do not have any interesting hobbies as most staff do here at Ichiroya...

For example, Junko who sits on my right is excellent at sewing.
She makes her daughter's dresses and made a parasol from a Yukata, not to mention a matching summer bag from a little remnant of it. Sugoi!

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170709231642j:plain

Junko stuff

Ikumi who sits on my far right plays trombone and is in an orchestra! Who could imagine that! from her calm and quiet character!

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170707131752j:plain

Junko and Ikumi plus shacho

Mari who sits on my right is a superb cook!! She is very health-conscious, in a good way, and she knows a lot about how to maintain a good health.
I have never seen her eating junk food for lunch. She always brings her good looking Obento box filled with greens and beans.
(yes, my lunch sometimes comes from Seven Eleven around the corner...)
This is Mari's today's lunch.  She always bring more than she can eat... don't worry!! she has 3:30pm break to finish!!

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170707130123j:plain

Mari

Most of you know Yuka, my boss,  she sits behind me and ohhh she is almighty!!!
She is an amazing mom of two beautiful daughters and a grandma!!(does not even look like a grandma!!) of three lovely grandchildren.
She also knows a lot about Kimono and oh! above all, she can put up with Ichiro's high demands!! hahahaha

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170709233144j:plain

Jin(Yuka's grandson) had his 1st birthday today.

We have MORE staff here with unique and interesting backgrounds which I might share in my next newsletter. :)
Well, I may not impress you, but I sure am being impressed by people surround me though. HA!
Oh! by the way, have I ever mentioned that we are taking a hip hop dance lesson from KENYA sensei on every Thursday after work?
Ichiro graciously provides this weekly lesson to keep us in good shape!
You know, maybe in my next newsletter, I maybe able to tell you that 'dancing' is something I can be proud of!! maybe!!! LOL

Kimono Flea Market ICHIROYA's News Letter No.702

Dear Ichiroya newsletter readers,
Hi! This is Nagisa writing again. Guess what? I finally did it! I saw Tom Brady with my own eyes! He is the famous quarterback for the New England Patriots. He visited Beijing, Shanghai and Tokyo as a part of the 2017 Tom Brady Asia Tour powered by Under Armour. I booked the Shinkansen ticket to Tokyo as soon as I heard the tour's announcement by Under Armour. Tom Brady came to Japan with heavy rain and storm. (Some Shinkansen lines were delayed by the bad weather, so I was nearly missed the great opportunity to see the greatest QB in person!) He held a quarterback clinic for high school and college players, and it can be seen anybody for free. I still can't believe that Tom Brady was calling audible and throwing passes in front of me! It became a really good memory that I can't forget forever. It's just between you and me, I'm a huge fan of Houston Texans actually.
By the way, I wore an Aloha shirt with tiger and bamboo pattern, which is known as a traditional Japanese motif.

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170701225105j:plain

Of course, I enjoyed the Tokyo traveling except the clinic. Shopping, go to museum (MARVEL's exhibition was just held there), and meeting a friend who lives in Tokyo. Furthermore, I was able to go to Gotokuji, where I'd wanted to go. It's located in a residential area, and known as a birthplace of 'Maneki-Neko' (lucky cat). There are so many lucky cats dedicated in Gotokuji.

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170701225147j:plain

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170701225251j:plain

Lucky cat is the most familiar good luck charm for Japanese. If you come to Japan, you can easily find it at restaurants, souvenir shops, here and there. They raise their either hand or sometimes both hands, and it's popularly believed that they bring a lot of luck to us. They also have lucky items such as 'Koban' (gold coin), mallet, 'Daruma', treasures and so on. However, Gotokuji's lucky cat is simple but tasteful. There are various types of lucky cats throughout Japan.

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170701225304j:plain

These 'Ema' (wooden votive table) are Imado Shrine's ones. There is also a popular spot because of its pair lucky cats. I visited there two years ago, too. Because they bring big love! Please imagine as you like whether the power worked on me. haha

Dear Ichiroya newsletter readers,
Hello, this is Mitsue. How are you doing? Are you enjoying our News Letters? I hope you could feel our daily life in Japan, and find something through Japanese culture and tradition.
Two weeks ago, I visited Shirasagi(white heron) park in Sakai city, southern part of Osaka. It is famous for 'Hana-shobu'(Japanese iris) and about 100 kinds are planted on waterside. Hana-shobu is fully blooming from rainy season to early summer. Its beautiful shape and colors are very popular among Japanese. There are many kimonos and obis with Hana-shobu design. The Language of Flower of it is 'good news' and 'message', so it is a symbol of good fortune. 'Ayame' and 'Kakitsubata' are very similar flower to 'Hana-shobu'. The difference of them from Hana-shobu is having leaf vein. I was surprised to see so many kinds of Hana-shobu and I enjoyed the beautiful colors. I found a heron beside the stream! First, I thought it was a fake...but it flied away. Well, I felt like I'm in the world of folktales.

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170625080654j:plain

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170625080555j:plain

Talking about folktales, 'Tanabata' (star festival) is held on July 7th in Japan. On this day, we display bamboo grass with strips of paper and ornaments. We write wishes on the strips, because it is said that wishes come true!
'Tanabata sasa'

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170625081116j:plain

gracias! | Flickr

'Tanabata' is originated from the Japanese folktale of 'Oriheme'(Vega) and the 'Hikoboshi'(Altair), who are separated by the Milky Way. When 'Hikoboshi'(Altair) met 'Oriheme'(Vega) for the first time, they were attracted each other. Then they had been in love and did not take care of their cows. So a disease had spread over them. The king got angry and separated them by the Milky Way. However, they deeply regretted themselves and the king allowed them to meet only on the night of July 7th. Oh yes! July 7th is mid rainy season in Japan, so we rarely see the wonderful reunion in the night sky.

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170625081314j:plain

Anyway, I like enjoying tea with delicious Japanese sweets. The photo is a beautiful sweets named 'Milky way'. I have already enjoyed it in advance thinking about the Vega and Altair. It was so delicious! Thank you for reading through. Hope you have a nice day!
I"d like to introduce a fabulous piece. Please take a look!

Dear newsletter readers,
Hello, this is Fumie.
This is my second time to write a newsletter.
Two months has been passed since then, and I’m getting used to it little by little.

The start of the rainy season was announced for Osaka last week and hydrangeas and lilies in my parent's garden began blooming.
Let me show you some nice items with hydrangea.
It is the best time to wear hydrangea.

<Haneri & Obiage> These are from Kimonotte, you can buy these from ICHIROYA.

*************************************************************************************By the way, do you know "Kendo"?
Kendo is the Japanese martial art of swordsmanship.
Points are scored by striking the opponent's head, wrist or body, or by thrusting to the neck with a bamboo sword called "Shinai".
The Kendo costume and Hakama (pleated and divided skirt made in fine stripes) are worn and "Men" towel (Japanese towel) is wrapped around the head.
The kendo implements consist of four parts: the "Men"(a face mask), the "Kote" (padded gloves to protect the wrists and forearms), the "Do" (a breast
plate), and the "Tare" (a protector for the waist and groin area).

Kyoto Kendo Vereinsturnier 2011(2)

Christian Kaden | Flickr

I went to watch the Kendo tournament that only holders of high-ranking "Rokudan"(6th degree) to "Hachidan"(8th degree) can participate.
There are not so many people having the qualification.
Especially the "Hachidan" holders are few and called "Tatsujin" (master).
The tournament is held every year in May in Kyoto Budo Center located near Heian Shrine.
It is a historical and zestful building.

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20170505101740j:plain

From such reasons, it is very valuable to see their fights, so there were a lot of people in the center to see their brave figure.
