A good customer of Ichiroya has opened a vintage Kimono shop in China town of Nagasaki prefecture.
The store is called 'Antique Kimono Beppin' and owned by a petite charming lady Akemi Tagawa san.
She has a grand collection of vintage Kimono and Obi and has been collecting vintage items for a long time.
It is a shop you can visit and purchase, but it would be worth a trip just to see her superb collections!!! She already had exhibition in spring, here is the past newsletter about her exhibition'

Today I would like to write about the Katsushika Hokusai exhibition 'beyond the Mt. Fuji' which was held at Abeno Harukas Museum from October 6 to November 19.
Katsushika Hokusai is a Japanese artist, ukiyo-e painter and printmaker of the Edo period.
This particular event was a joint project with the British Museum, and we hear it was a great success in the UK this summer.
(Their title was 'beyond the Great Wave' how cool was that!!??)
Those who have not heard of Hokusai, you have surely seen his art works!!?? You instantly can be drawn into the world of Hokusai!!
The Hokusai exhibition in Japan was held ONLY in Osaka and also a HUGE success, it drew people from all over Japan.
I went on the last weekend of the exhibition, and from tweets and instagram, I knew it was going to be packed!
So I left home early and arrived at 9:00am to get in a line when the museum's open hour was at 10:00am!!
There was already a long line before the gate.... (sigh).... but the museum decided to open their door early!!, we were able to get in quickly!! yokatta!
The exhibition was AMAZING!
The woodblock prints and hand drawings of his works from 1779 to 1849 were displayed.
There was a total of about 200 of his works displayed, and about 1/3 of them was his own hand paintings.
Hokusai's famous original woodblock print of 'the Great Wave' and 'the Mt. Fuji' were displayed too.
Oh! by the way, they were a lot smaller than I imagined.
His rather off-scale and somewhat imaginary design took my breath away.
I was SO glad that I went to this exhibition as his detailed work, even a small expression of a farmer's face, was something I could not notice via photos and books.
The colors and its invisible power what emerges out were not something I could feel either if I never went. :)
All his works were amazing, even a miniature drawing on a note was stunning, but what I most impressed by was his LAST work at his age 90.
The 'Tiger in snow' was displayed at the last end of the exhibition, and I felt like my tears were gushing when I saw this painting.
Expression of the tiger's face was soft, content yet somewhat lonesome .... like it is wanting but not wanting to go somewhere peaceful...hmmmm
I do not know much about arts and history, but I am so glad that I went to this exhibition.
If you find a Hokusai exhibition in your country, I strongly recommend that you make a trip and visit!
It is worth a trip I promise!!!!

KAWAII items from Ichiroya

Hi! This is Nagisa writing again. How have you been? I went to Expo '70 Commemorative Park to watch a football game last Sunday. The Expo park is where the Japan World Exposition was held in 1970, and it's located in Suita city, Osaka. There is a huge park now, which has a lot of sports facilities, big events are often held there, and seasonal flowers are come into full bloom in each season here and there. So that, many people visit the park throughout the year, and I've been there many times since I was a child. Now is a good season to see autumn leaves!
Incidentally, my old school football team 'KG Fighters' won through to the national tournament. Congrats! However, my favorite NFL team Texans is... Sigh... I've been heartbroken by the news about two legendary players' injuries... I was almost started to fold a thousand cranes with grief... I went to Goou Jinja Shinto Shrine instead. It's one of the unique Jinja in Kyoto, which is enshrined the guardian of legs and lower back. People come there, and pray for someone's or their own good health or recovery from worries about legs or lower back. I prayed for their speedy recovery from the other side of the sea!
By the way, there are various types of guardians other than health, such as learning, victory, love, business, and money. They are enshrined at each Jinja throughout Japan, and we visit these Jinja and pray depending on our worries or desires. Also, going around temples and shrines, and collecting stamps called 'Goshuin' on a stamp book is popular among ladies in Japan. Why don't you try it if you come to Japan?
Here is the today's main theme finally! (Sorry, my introductory stories are always too long.) I've been taking part in a class once a week recently. I study there about Japanese language education for non native speakers. Lots of Japanese words are used as they are in the world now. Kimono, Sushi, Ninja, Emoji, and so on. 'Kawaii' is one of them. Have you ever used the words? There are some English words which mean 'Kawaii' such as charming, cute, pretty, adorable, and lovely. When I write descriptions of Kimono items, I sometimes wonder which word I should choose. Anyways, 'Kawaii' is a very useful word, especially young girls often use this word for everything. I also often hear that our boss Ichiro says 'Look! This vintage Kimono is very 'Kawaii', isn't it?'

Hello, this is Mitsue writing. The air is getting cool and the leaves are turning red and yellow. Kyoto and Nara are so crowded with visitors to see autumn leaves. I planned to visit Nara next week, and Kyoto at the end of this month with my friends.
My teacher of erthu (2-stringed Chinese instrument played with a bow) lives in Kyoto, and she happened to see Maiko last week at Yasaka shrine. They attended fire prevention campaign and helped for passing out tissues for public to call out attention for beware of fire. My teacher says she doesn't see Maiko so often even if living in Kyoto. So, she might have screamed 'MAIKO Haaaaan!!!' in her mind. It is a title of a Japanese comedy movie! During day times, Maiko takes lessons to polish their performances. So, if you see Maiko during daytime, probably she is a tourist who dress like Maiko. There are Maiko transformation studios in Kyoto!
Maiko is an apprentice geiko (not exactly same as geisha). Their jobs consist of performing songs, dances, and playing the shamisen or the koto (traditional Japanese instruments) for visitors during supper. Maiko are usually aged 15 to 20 years old and become geiko after learning how to dance the traditional Kyomai dances, play the shamisen, and learning Kyo-kotoba (dialect of Kyoto), regardless of their origins.
At night, they go out to work. At high-quality Japanese-style restaurants or Japanese-style inn, they perform dances, songs, play the shamisen, and serve visitors with sake. Recently, their jobs have expanded to include visiting nursing institutions or hospitals. Some maiko are also dispatched overseas.
Maiko originated from women who served green tea and dango (Japanese dumpling made from rice flour) to people who visited the Kitano Tenmangu or Yasaka Shrine (these are the two of the famous shrines in Kyoto) at teahouses about 300 years ago. At first, women served only green tea and dango, but they gradually started to perform songs and dances for visitors.
The hair style of Maiko has various kinds of Nihon gami(Japanese traditional hairstyles) depending on rank, formality and occasion. They decorate their hairstyles with seasonal kanzashi (traditional hair ornaments). Maiko, unlike geiko, use their own hair and not wigs. They go to the nihongami hairdresser once a week which means that they have to sleep on a takamakura (wooden block with a pillow) in order to maintain it.
Maiko wear special kimono called Susohiki or Hikizuri. They are usually 200cm long, with a padded hem to create weight so it will trail beautifully on the floor. When she walk outside, she will hold the bottom up with her hands, or tie it so that it does not touch the ground. The sleeves are long like those of a furisode. The kimono has colorful and seasinal pattern. For formal occasions the maiko will wear black Susohiki with 5 family crests of Okiya (house which she belongs to).
The darari obi is a 6-7 meters long obi worn by maiko. Due to its length and weight an otokoshi-san (male dresser) is needed to tie it. At the end of the darari obi has a crest, so that every one can see which okiya the maiko belongs to. For formal occasions the maiko will wear gold obi.

Hi! This is Nanae from Ichiroya.
It will be one of my great winter holidays to sit or sleep warm under the kotatsu.
Kotatsu is a table with an electric heater underneath and covered by a quilt.
I usually read a book, watch TV, surf the Internet, and tear some boiled chicken etc under the kotatsu.
I tried to look for a new hobby in order to stay under kotatsu at home and I decided to knit something warm for my pet dog.
This is my story about “hobby” and “excuse” :p
When I went to a 100 yen shop to buy some knitting wool, I saw ‘needle felting’ beside the knitting stuff. Did you know? We can start needle felting with just wool, felting needles and a cushion or pad. First, roll up a small amount of wool and stab it with the needle. When the wool is stabbed with the felting needle, it pulls the wool into itself. By stabbing the wool with the needle over and over while turning the wool, it continues to pull wool in and the wool, with its tiny scales, locks together. Continue stabbing the wool, turning results in a firm round shape. Once there is a basic shape to start with, wool is added where it is needed to form a sculpture. Oh, I see…
I didn’t follow the instruction of needle felting. I mean I didn’t read it and didn’t know how to do it at all.
I started rolling some wool and stabbing it with a needle to make a budgerigar doll. I started watching a movie ‘The imitation game’ at the same time. I was concentrating on needle felting at the beginning. I have to say ‘at the beginning’.
Have you seen the movie? During World War II, mathematician Alan Turing tried to crack the enigma code with help from fellow cryptanalysts.
It is based on a true story. The essentials are true, and to get so much history into a film. It is absolutely compelling and enthralling from the start to finish for me.
I’m not going to tell the details here for you, who haven’t watched yet.
Anyway, I started doing two things at the same time so I wanted to complete both of them at the same time as well! I kept stabbing in order not to get injured.
Tada~~~~! How is it? hahaha! I feel ashamed to show it. It is unique…
Um…not good… well, u know? Because the movie was so exci…. I couldn’t concentr….. But I realized many people failed doing it at first.
Do a search on the Internet for “needle felting/fail”, and you will see many failures. We are all the same. I’m not feeling ashamed anymore!
One of my nieces thankfully liked my first work so I gave it to her.
This is my second piece. Getting better, right?
I will make a doll of my dog someday and say good bye to needle felting.

短編小説２０『８６』

母が入居する介護施設『やまぶき』の駐車場には、オレンジの８６が停まっていた。
妻の車CX3の助手席から降りた妻は、その８６に歩み寄るとナンバープレートをまじまじと見つめた。低木の垣根に接している後部に回り込んで首を伸ばし、やがて私の元へ歩み寄って言った。
「この車だわ」
先週、介護施設から帰る途中に、無謀な運転のオレンジの車のせいで事故にあいかけた。「この車」がその時の車を意味していることは、いつも妻に察しが悪いと言われている私にもすぐにわかった。
『やまぶき』はM市の郊外にあって、高速の出口からM市の市街をかすめてたどり着くまでには、しばらくカーブの多い里山の中の道を走らなければならない。
先週、用事で行けない僕の代わりに、妻がひとりで『やまぶき』に向かっている時、右回りのカーブから飛び出してきた対向車がすべって、妻の車に衝突しかけたという。思わず左にハンドルを切ったおかげで、妻の車はあわやガードレールに接触というところであった。
妻は車には疎い。CX3も、鮮やかなワインレッド、ヨーロッパ風のデザイン、車高の高さと取り回しの良いサイズでみずから選んだ車であったが、頭のなかにはポルシェとフェラーリの区別もない。その車が８６であったということは、ドライバーは運転好きに違いなく、カーブで滑っていたのではなく、ドリフトを決めてカーブを回っていった可能性もある。妻の車がガードレールにあてずに済んだところを見ると、車線のはみ出しもわずかなものだったのかもしれない。
だが、公道でのドリフトは違法である。妻が危うく事故を起こしかけたことは間違いなく、改めて怒りが湧き上がってくる。
「なぜ、この車だって断定できる？」
「だって、こんな形、色だったし、ナンバーがほら・・・」
妻の視線の先には、ある数字を４つ並べた、ひと目見たら忘れようのないナンバープレートがついていた。
「一瞬見ただけだから自信なかったけど、やっぱり間違いないわ」
『やまぶき』の駐車場は、建物の手前にあるアスファルト敷の場所の他に、建物の裏側にも整地しただけの場所がある。
私が停めて、８６も停まっているその場所は、アスファルトの駐車場である。
来客のものだろうか？
それとも、職員のものだろうか？
怒りとともに、戸惑いが広がる。
相手はどんな男だろうか？
一週間前の危険な暴走行為をたしなめたとして、相手は聞く耳を持つだろうか？
見たところ、この８６はノーマルのようだが、暴走族のメンバーのような男だったら・・・妻をなだめるだけにしておいたほうが、面倒がなくて良いのではないだろうか？
考えがまとまらないまま、私は８６を後にして『やまぶき』の玄関に向かった。
『やまぶき』の玄関でブザーを押し、中から３か所につけられた鍵を開けてもらう。
扉を引き開いたところには、見慣れない女性職員がいた。
白髪交じりの髪をなんとかなでつけて、眼鏡をかけてようやく外向きの顔にした、そんな感じの中年女性。城田の息子ですと言うと、ご苦労さまですと、少し微笑んでスリッパを私達のためにふたつ降ろしてくれた。
来訪者用のノートを開いて、名前を記入する。
ほぼ２週間おきに自分の名前がある。その合間に、私たちより近くに住んでいる妹の名前が、書かれている。
母は要介護５。そういえば、母の年齢も、ちょうど８６才。
まだ頭がしっかりしていた数年前に、家のアプローチの階段で転んで、激しく足を折った。何十本ものボルトを入れる手術を乗り越えて、なんとか杖で立ち上がれるまでにいったんは回復したものの、車椅子となり、その後、妄想をともなう認知症を発症。
いまでは、昼間も寝ていることが多く、起きて話している時も、会話はまったく通じない。
一時、妻の父を家に引き取っていたことがあった。だから、この状態の母を引き取って自宅で介護することが、私たちに、もしくは、妹家族にどれだけ大きな負担になるかわかっていた。実際のところ、不可能である。だが、この施設におまかせさせていただいているのを良いことに、２週間に一回しか顔を見に来ないというのも、薄情ではないか、そう思うこともある。私よりずっと面倒を見ている妹はそのあたりはクールで、まだ先は長いから、無理のない程度でいいのよ、と言う。
たしかに、ノートを見ていると、入居者の数のわりには、訪問者の名前は少ない。私たちの名前が、そのリストではやや多いように思える。それに、介護施設に来た時に、ほかの入居者の家族が来訪しているところに、ほとんど会ったことがない。
その日も、来訪者は、私たちだけであった。
記帳をすませると、ダイニングルームに入った。
正面のよく目立つところに、職員の顔写真と名前やプロフィールの書かれた紙が貼ってある。さきほどの女性の名前が、「南祐子」であることがわかった。
南さんの横に、茶髪の若い男の顔写真があった。
ほかの顔写真は、見たことがある面々だったが、この男性もはじめて見る顔である。
プロフィールによると、名前は「前島祐介」。
そして、その下に、「趣味・車」と本人が書いたらしいやや乱暴な文字。
ちょうど昼食時にかかっており、ダイニングルームには７、８人の入居者が座り、４人のスタッフが食事の補助などをしていた。
母も車椅子のままテーブルの前に座って、目をつむっていた。
そして、もうひとつのテーブルに、その前島という若者のものに違いない茶色の頭が見えた。
私たちは５０代後半で、妻と小さな会社を経営しているため、母の介護に生活の大半の時間をかけることはできない。
母の介護に、国が手を貸してくれることで、私たちも母もなんとか生きていくことができる。
が、若い介護職員を見ると、ときどき、こんなことでいいのかと思う。
母の食事の介助や下の世話を若い人にさせて、自分たちは少なくても嫌いではないビジネスをさせてもらっている。
介護という仕事の尊さはわかっているつもりだし、若い男性の中にもそれを天職とする素晴らしい人間性の人たちもいると、理解しているつもりだ。
だが、心のどこかに、申し訳ないという思いが居座っている。
しかし。
前島という若い男性職員の趣味は車で、走り屋たちにもっとも支持されている手頃な８６というスポーツカーに乗っている。前島くんは、厳しい違いない介護の仕事の傍ら、好きなことも楽しんでいる。
最高に楽しいスポーツカーをと、トヨタとスバルのエンジニアたちが火花を散らしながら作り上げた８６。
その８６が、私にとってまるで免罪符のように思えたのである。
妻も職員紹介に気がついて、「趣味・車」と書かれたあたりを指差して、怒りを宿した目で私を見た。
若い頃の自分か、自分の息子に、母の介護を押しつけているのような罪悪感とそれをすこしやわらげてくれた８６。しかし、その相手に危険にさらされた妻だ。説明もせずに、わたしのそんな思いを共有してくれるはずもない。危険な運転で妻の背筋を凍らせ、一歩間違えば後続車に追突するなどの大事故になっていた可能性もあるのである。妻のことを考えれば、あの８６の持ち主にちゃんと抗議すべきなのである。
母の横に小さな椅子を置いて、私は職員のひとりから、食事の介助を引き取ることにした。
母は目をつむったままである。
開けようにも接着剤のように目やにが張りついている。
妻が職員からウェットティッシュをもらい、閉じた目にこびりついた目やにを拭ってくれる。最近、ほとんどの時間を眠っているという母の目やには簡単にはとれない。
妻が声をかける。
「お母さん、息子が来ましたよ、ほら、目を開けて、コウタを見てやってください」
母は目を開こうとするが、かすかに開けても、また閉じてしまう。まぶたを開けたところで、老人性色素斑の目が、ちゃんと私の顔の輪郭を認識してくれるのか、怪しいものなのだが。
スプーンで、ごはんをほんの少しすくい、「唇につけて、ごはんだよ、口を開けて」と声をかける。
母はゆっくりと唇を開く。その隙間に白いごはんを押し込むように入れると、母は咀嚼を始める・・・
「どうせ、あたしらは、ただの金づる。こうやって、生かしといたら、カネになるしな。まあ、家畜みたいなもんやな」
ひとつ離れたテーブルで、そんな声が上がった。
その声の主を知っている。
白髪交じりパーマをあてたばかりのような髪、怒りを滲ませている渋い表情、太い身体。
その女性は、施設の中に響き渡る大きな声で、いつも世の中への呪詛の言葉を唱えているのである。
「死んでも、すぐに次が入ってくるしな。タグチさんの時も、次の日には部屋が空になって、後釜がすぐに入ってきたから、びっくりした。息子も娘も、子供らはみんな鬼や。ここがどんなとこか知ってて、世話になった親を放り込んで、知らん顔。まったく、訊ねても来ん。お前らはみんな鬼や、人間とちゃう」
「悲しくなるから、そんなこと言わんといてください」
その声の主を辿ると、その声は、彼女のそばに座っていたあの茶髪の青年、前島くんのものであった。
「ほんまのことや」
「そんなことないですって」
前島くんはスプーンを別の入居者の口に近づけながら言った。
残念ながら、彼の反論には力がない。
しかし、どう言えば、いったい誰が、彼女の言葉を完全に否定できるのか。
彼女の子供たちは、彼女の言葉通り、まったく訊ねて来ないのかもしれない。見たところ身体の機能に問題のなさそうな彼女は介護度も低く、彼女は自分の家で暮らしたかったのかもしれない。
私たちが母の部屋に訪れている時、彼女のそんな呪詛の言葉を何度も聞いたが、誰もやめさせようとはしなかった。
入居者も、職員も、訪問者も、彼女の言葉を聞くのは辛いに違いないのだが、かといって、誰も彼女を黙らせることができない。
ましてや、新入りの前島くんに、そんなことを期待しても無駄だろう。
私と妻は顔を見合わせ、食事の間はその言葉を聞き続けなければならないと、暗い覚悟をした。
が、その時、玄関を開けてくれた南という新しい女性職員が近づいて、その女性の横に座った。
「なに言ってはるんですか」
彼女は優しく声をかけた。
「みんな知ってるけど、言わんことを教えたってるんや」
「まあ、素敵」
南さんはそう言うと、女性に抱きついた。
「好き。ぎゅっとさせて。ほんとうに好き」
南さんは女性の広い身体に両腕を回して身体を密着させている。
「好き、好き」
女性は呪詛の言葉を中断し、腕を振りほどこうともせず、迷惑そうな、それでいて嬉しさを隠しきれないような表情をしている。
「ごはん済んだね。じゃ、ちょっと、私と散歩行って」
「嫌」
「そんなこと言わんと。こんなに好きなんよ」
彼女は立ち上がった。そして、ちょっとだけやでと言うと、南さんに手を取られて、ダイニングルームから出ていった。
その時、彼女の表情からは呪いが消えていた。
部屋から出ていく時、南さんはダイニングに残った私たちに、なんの素振りも見せなかった。それが、さも当然の行為であるかのように。
食事の後、母を部屋に連れていき、持参した和菓子やプリンを食べさせようとしたが、母は目をつむったまま、開いた唇を震わせるばかりで、何も食べず、私たちを認識もしなかった。
「素敵な職員さんが入ったのね」と妻が言った。
「そうだな」と私。
私たちの思いは同じだったに違いない。それを口に出して確かめるまでもなかった。
母をベッドに寝かせ、部屋を後にした。
いつものように見かけた職員さんに礼を言った。
とりわけ、南さんに礼を言いたかったのだが、彼女の姿は見当たらなかった。
鍵を開けて玄関を出て、細い庭を歩いて駐車場へ向かった。
一進一退を繰り返す母の状態は思わしくなかったが、南さんのおかげで私たちの胸には暖かなものが宿っていた。
それは、肯定的で、力強く、私たちを支えてくれるもののように思えた。
庭の出口の門に差し掛かった時、あのオレンジの８６がゆっくりと動き出すのが見えた。
普段なら、そのままやり過ごしたかもしれない。
が、私は走り出した。
南さんほどのことは、私にはできないかもしれない。
でも、その程度のことはできるはずだ。妻の気持ちに落とし前をつけ、誰かを事故に巻き込むかもしれない危険な運転はやめさせるのだ。
私は鉄の門を開け、全速で走った。
８６はゆっくりとテールを見せ、出口に向かっていた。
駐車場の出口から、ノーズを出して左右を確認している時、追いついた私は後部のウインドウを叩いた。
一瞬、発進しかけた８６は急ブレーキで止まった、
そして、運転席側の窓が降り始めた。
急に全速で走ったため、また、極度の緊張のため、心臓が口から飛び出しそうであった。
運転席側に向かって歩み寄った時。
ウィンドウから顔を出したのは、茶髪の青年前島くん。
ではなく、南さんであった。
「どうかされました？」
私は用意していた言葉を、すべて失った。
８６の持ち主は南さんであった。
奥の駐車場に車高を下げたNワゴンが停めてあったのに後で気がついた。きっと、そちらが前島くんの車なのだろう。
私たちは南さんの対応に感謝の言葉を述べた。
そして、すこし悩んだあげく、思い切って先週の出来事が南さん本人だったかどうか、訊ねた。
「あのときの・・・」南さんは驚きを見せた。
８６から降りてくると、妻に深々と頭を下げ、「ほんとうにごめんなさい」と言った。
先週、タグチという入居者が所内で亡くなったのだが、亡くなる直前に南さんを呼んで欲しいと、連絡が入った。
間に合わないかもしれないと思った南さんは、ついスピードを出してしまい、昔の走りをしてしまった。怖い思いをさせたのはわかっていたが、妻の車が無事に停車したところを確認したので、申し訳ないと思いながら、そのまま走り去った。
「昔の走りって」
「暴走族じゃないわよ」
南さんは少しずった眼鏡を人差し指で押し上げると、つけ加えた。
「いまじゃ流行らないけど、若いころ、ハチロクで、峠を走っていたのよ」
妻と私は、走り去る８６の垂れ目のテールライトを見送った。
私が南さんにかけた最後の言葉は、「運転にはくれぐれも気をつけてください」であった。
その特別な一日を締めるには、なんとも間の抜けた台詞であった。

On the other day, I visited Keisuke Serizawa Museum in Shizuoka. Mr. Keisuke
Serizawa (1895-1984) was a dyeing artisan who was designated as a Living National
Treasure by the Japanese government for his "KATAZOME" stencil dyeing technique.
Ichiro has showed us a book of his works a couple of years ago. I was fascinated
by his tasteful "KATAZOME" works. I loved the vivid color, dynamic layout,
detailed pattern, and so on. Ever since then, I always wanted to see his works in
person.
This time, I finally made it.

The great thing about his works is that they are made for practical purpose. When
I visited there, "Noren" (a kind of curtain) exhibision was held. Many of the
"Noren" were donated by the original owners like a local Kimono shop, a noodle
restaurant and common households.

As you see, his works are very unique and impressive. He dyed kimono and obi
fabrics, too. His works have been appreciated as art. At the same time, they are
all practical, and really used in daily lives of ordinaly people.

We can still buy items of he designed like "Tenugui"(Japanese hand towel),
"Furoshiki"(wrapping cloth) and "Noren" etc. That is the great thing about
"Katazome"(stencil-dyed). As long as there are stencil papers he designed, we can
dye things with them.
There is his house next to the museum. It is opened to the public only on Sundays
and public holidays. I loved his house, too! It is a very simple, old style
Japanese wooden house with tasteful and minimal furnitures and folk craft. He said
"My house is ordinary like a farmer, and healthy like a farmer." The words
represent his house and his philosophy very well. I want to live in the house like
that one day.
Although Mr. Serizawa's works are too rare to find now a days, we still have very
tasteful "Katazome"(stencil-dyed) items. Enjoy!

Here I go, today's topic is about (drums.......) Cosplay!!!!! I know many of you who shops at Ichiroya enjoy Cosplay or have interests in Manga/Anime/Game. Just past week, there was a Cosplay event in Tokyo, and our staff Natsumi attended the event cosplaying in a character from her favorite Manga.
Can you tell what character she is? from which Manga? If you know, you are an expert!!!
In case you are not familiar with Anime/Mange/Game, the top photo is Souza Samonji from Token-Ranbu, and the above photo is Ryu from Breath of Fire. The photos look as if they just came out of Manga!!! Amazing!

About 30 cosplayers attended this event, but they can put together double the amount on the weekend, Natsumi said.
Apparently, there are many Cosplay events held in Osaka throughout the year too, and Natsumi said the biggest one in Osaka is called 'Nippombashi Street Festa'. Have you heard of it?

Natsumi thinks popular character among Gaikokujn maybe from One Piece and Dragon Ball Manga.
As you can see Natsumi's cosplay is so perfect! that she draws much attention by other cosplayers, and she is often asked for a handshake or a photo shoot!! Sugoi!
At Ichiroya, Natsumi is a very reserved, charming, and hard working employee who handles our Amazon Japan shop.
She can handle listing hundreds of items on Amazon without a single drop of sweat!
She normally dresses in casual clothing like jeans and hoodie at work, but when it comes to Cosplay, she can be very dramatic and bold!!!

It is a beautiful Autumn in Japan now, and rice is being harvested this month in our area.
Rice patties near my house have golden rice stalks and they are probably being harvested this weekend, so I quickly took some photos of them.
