Dear newsletter readers,

Hello, this is Mari writing this week.
Last time, I wrote about Rugby World Cup 2019. Japan, a.k.a brave blossoms, played very well, and advanced to the quarterfinal. Although they lost against South Africa, they did great job. I want to thank them for entertaining and encouraging us with their great performance.
I still look forward watching rest of games!

There was the throne of His Majesty the Emperor on Tuesday, October 22nd. The ceremonies participated in by around 200 foreign heads of state and other dignitaries. They were live broadcasted. I watched TV with great interest. As you see in the top picture, Japanese imperial family members were dressed like Heian Nobles for the ceremonies. The image on the TV monitor was just like Heian period (794-1185), and I felt like we have time traveled back to the period.

I was also amazed by colorful and gorgeous fashion of those state guests.
You can see them in the article below.
https://www.townandcountrymag.com/society/tradition/g29516694/emperor-naruhito-enthronement-ceremony-japan-photos/#sidepanel

It was raining hard in the morning of the day. However, when our new Emperor showed up, the rain stopped, and there was a rainbow in the sky.
We all felt some super natural power at that time. It must be a good sign for the Emperor and all of us.

The Emperor wore yellowish brown "Sokutai".

The Empress wore colorful "Junihitoe".

Both majesty looked great in the traditional costumes.
As the Emperor declared, we all hope peaceful Reiwa era.

While I was watching the ceremonies, I really thought that the traditional costumes "Sokutai" and "Junihitoe" are beautiful.
As you may know, Heian Nobles in the traditional costume pattern is all time favorite. We have many of them on our site!

Thank you for reading until the end.
Hope you enjoy our newsletter. See you next time!

Konnichiwa everyone! Ogenki desuka?
This is Yoko from Ichiroya.
We must first thank you for many emails concerning the Typhoon which affected Kanto and Tohoku areas of Japan last week.  Though it did not leave much damage in Osaka this time, we were very very scared.
If you remember the last year's typhoon, it flooded Kansai Airport and knocked down telephone poles and caused water outage and black outs.
If there is a way to send rain and wind to other parts on the Earth with drought, I would love to know.... honto

I guess the typhoon took the summer heat with it, it is all the sudden cold now.... samui samui...
I talked about taking my thicker Futon out in my last newsletter, but now I must take out my Kotatsu table.
Kotatsu is a heated table with a thick comforter over it.  It is very warm and comfortable, and my beagle Marin loves getting in the Kotatsu with us..  I do not recommend one because it spoils everyone in the family. (lazy)

By the way, have you seen a pink color grasshopper? A staff at Ichiroya saw one and took this photo!
Can you believe your eyes? I guess it is a sudden mutation? or a sign of good fortune!?
she said.

Dear newsletter readers,

Hello, this is Mitsue writing this week.

It is getting cooler and cooler in Japan. Autumn is my best favorite season, for eating, reading, playing music and outgoing. I visited China last month where I wanted to go for a long time. I have been to Taiwan and Hong Kong before, but China was my first visit.

I visited mainly Soshu and Shanghai, so let me share you about Soshu this time

Soshu (Suzhou in Chinese) is a major city located about 100 km northwest of Shanghai. It is a major economic center and focal point of trade and commerce, and the second largest city in the province. The city is situated on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the shores of Lake Tai.

The city's canals, stone bridges, pagodas, and meticulously designed gardens are so beautiful and attract tourists in China. The classical gardens were added to the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1997 and 2000. Soshu is often said as the "Venice of the East". Do you know a famous song of ‘Soshu Yakyoku’ which was composed by Japanese ‘Ryoichi Hattori’ in 1940 for a Chinese movie song,

Silk is also famous from old times. It was the main trade item of Silk Road as an expensive valuable one. But its manufacturing method has been kept secret for a long time, and those who took the cocoon bag out of China were sentenced to death.
Industrial technology was introduced to the Eastern Roman Empire in 6th century and spread form there. In the 14th century, silk fabric embroidery work was at its peak in China, and embroidery technique had evolved in such as Soshu, and Nanjing,

The photos show manufacturing factory of silk fabric. They put 2 worms into the cocoon to make thick and strong fiber. The fiber stretches largely without breaking. Can you see the difference of the cocoon size between the single and double worms?

Well, the Tiger Hill is known for its natural environment and historical sites. It is named so because it looks like a crouching tiger. A legend says that a white tiger appeared on the hill to guard it following the burial. The tower has been a tourist destination for hundreds of years, as evidence of poetry and calligraphy carved into rocks. It is leaning a little because of land subsidence, so it is called as ‘Eastern Pisa’.

Ichiroya has some items with Soshu embroidery work. Please click the URL to enjoy the beautiful embroidery technique.

Hello, Ichiroya newsletter readers!
This is Iori, ogenkidesuka?

It's October and very comfortable season.
Autumn for harvest.
It is my favorite season we can have many delicious food in Japan.
Kids love fruits such as grapes, pears, figs, chestnuts and sweet potatoes!
I love 'takikomi-gohan', boiled rice seasoned with mixed vegetables, especially with mushrooms and chestnuts.
Now I am planning to go 'budou-gari' (grape picking) in this month.
We can enjoy picking grapes and muscats, and eating them there so kids will like it!
Oh, I am hungry now...

Dear newsletter readers,

Hello, this is Mari writing this week.
It is getting cooler and cooler in Japan. It will be the best season to wear kimono,
Not too hot, not too cold. Thinking about kimono coordinate is one of my favorite things to do. We will introduce kimono coordination like the last newsletter again in near future! We hope you enjoy our suggestion.

As you may know, Rugby World Cup 2019 is in session in Japan.

I have been watching games with great interest. This is once a life time event!
We are hosting Rugby World Cup, right?
We can watch the best rugby players play everyday. To be honest with you, rugby is not that popular in Japan. Baseball and soccer are a lot more popular. However, Osaka is a place where rugby is popular. Small kids play Tag rugby at elementary schools. Many Junior high and high schools have rugby club which is rare in Japan. Hosting rugby world cup must be precious experience for them, and encourage them to practice harder.

All blacks' Haka made us excited of course!
Ireland vs Scotland game made me stop doing anything else but watching TV. Now, I'm a rugby fan!

Japan is in Pool A which is the same pool as Ireland and Scotland.
We are still hoping to win rest of games, and advance to the final league.

Autumn is a season for sports! We have sports theme items!
They are unique and fashionable!

Konnichiwa Minasan! Ogenki desuka?
Hope you are having a nice weekend.
This is Yoko desu.

Believe or not! Autumn is pushing Summer away with great power!
Now it can be very chilly, especially at night and in the morning.
I must put away my summer Futon and take out a thicker Futon to prepare for Winter.
That is alright, my beagle Marin will keep me warm! fufufu

In this newsletter, I would like to write about perfect Kimono to wear in Autumn.
We are supposed to wear Hitoe(unlined Kimono) in September, but soon in October, you can start to enjoy
Awase(lined Kimono).  Oshima Tsumugi Kimono is a perfect Kimono to wear for rather chilly Autumn outings, don't you think?

Instead of deep Ai color or mud dye Oshima Kimono, there are white Oshima, colorful Oshima, and even a dyed Oshima.
You can choose your favorite Oshima depending on where you are headed. :)
It does not have to be Oshima Tsumugi, it can also be just a simple Tsumugi too!
I hope you enjoy Tsumugi style in this Autumn for casual outings!!

Here are some of our recommendations!

There are a lot more Tsumugi Kimono to choose from on our website.
If you need assistance choosing the right one for you, please feel free to let us know!

Just so you know, next coming up Monday is a Japanese national holiday, so the earliest we can reply would be on Tuesday.
Thank you for your understanding and attention in this matter.

Have a wonderful day!

Flower & Genjiko

Dear ICHIROYA News Letter readers,

Hi! How are you doing? Mitsue is writing this time. It’s getting cooler and cooler these days, but autumn is too short. So I’d like to enjoy this comfortable season as much as I can. What are you going to do in comfortable season?

One of my favorite outgoing is visiting museums. Vintage Juban(undergarment) is exhibited at a small historical museum of Yao city, Osaka where I live. I visited there and attended a lecture about pattern of Juban. It was fun as well as our staff meeting which we have every morning. Yes, we usually study about Kimono changing the themes every each month, so let me share you some what I learned.

The word  ‘Juban’ is from Arabic ‘jubbah’, and the sound is from Portuguese. Originally Juban had no sleeves and the length was short, but it has changed with the times. The original ones are called Han-juban. They are hardly left, because underwear is consumables, you know. So ICHIROYA also has just a few ones, but we have many other vintage Juban with attractive pattern.

People enjoy hidden fashion from old times, and particularly put importance at a glimpse. So they enjoyed their favorite pattern with Juban in secret or make wishes for their family with it.

For example, women enjoyed glamorous, charming and graceful patterns such as flower, butterfly and 'genjiko' (ancient Japanese incense) .

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20190913183647j:plain

The ones such as royal cart, treasure, nobles and castle is their longing for wealth, and scroll, book and musical instrument pattern is for educated.

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20190913183609j:plain

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20190913183625j:plain

Auspicious patterns such as 'Shou-chiku-bai'( pine tree, bamboo and Ume blossom), crane, 'Kikko' (tortoise shell) and 'Shippou-tsunagi' (interlocking circles) are symbols of health and wealth of the family.

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20190913183020j:plain

'Asanoha'(hemp leaf) is growing up quickly and straightly, so the pattern is often used for baby’s and child’s one. Needless to say, toy and animal pattern such as doll, wooden horse and ball are often used.

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20190913183142j:plain

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20190913183129j:plain

For men, we can find historical pattern such as battle, Olympic and baseball for the lining which reminds of atmosphere of that time.

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20190913183228j:plain

f:id:yumejitsugen1:20190913183058j:plain

We can enjoy layered wearing with similar color or opposite one, combination of their own favorite. The way of enjoying Kimono fashion is unlimited. How about finding your favorite pattern and your special way of wearing Kimono at ICHIROYA?

Followings are the items which have those patterns I introduced today.
